According to the Journal of American Medicine, “Goat’s milk is the most complete food known.” It almost seems silly to say anything after this. Most. Complete. But let’s dive in a little further anyway.
What can raw milk do?
John E. Crewe, M.D. (founder of the Mayo Clinic) wrote an article documenting diseases tackled by raw milk. Among them are:
- poor digestion
- IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
- kidney disease
- kidney stones
- liver disease
- heavy metal poisoning
- fluid retention
- heart disease
- and many others
With a list like that, I think it’s safe to say this is pretty good stuff.
Why raw milk?
Raw milk is just that … raw. It has not been processed in any way, leaving it exactly as nature intended. The idea behind pasteurization is that it kills off bad bacteria, but in the process it kills off a lot other stuff too. The Weston A. Price Foundation states: Pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamins C, B12 and B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.
Why goat’s milk?
When comparing goat’s milk to cow’s milk, goat’s milk contains 13 percent more calcium, 25 percent more vitamin B-6, 47 percent more vitamin A, 134 percent more potassium, three times more niacin, and 27 percent more of the antioxidant selenium. It contains a higher evolved carotene (pro-Vitamin A) which has been found to have cancer-preventing properties. It is easily and rapidly digested…in less than 20 minutes. More comparisons.
And in case you’re wondering if it’s safe. Certified raw milk actually has stricter standards than pasteurized milk.
Here’s a couple of other documents outlining the benefits of raw goat’s milk.
